Life Cycle of a Pumpkin

Today we read Pumpkin Jack and Seeds, Sprouts, Pumpkin, Pie. These books walked us through the life cycle of a pumpkin. After reading we discussed the differences between the life cycle of a pumpkin and the life cycle of a bean plant, which is what we have been studying the last two weeks. The kids then were given the task to display their version of the life cycle of a pumpkin. Check out their pictures!

Pumpkin math

Today the students were making estimates about the measurements of a pumpkin. They estimated how much the pumpkin weighed, how many lines it has, the circumference, and how many seeds it has. After they made their estimates they found the actual measurements. Tomorrow they will find the differences between their estimates and the actual measurements. It was a lot of fun!

Planting Broccoli Seeds

Today's the day!  We planted broccoli seeds in the school garden and inside the classroom in our indoor greenhouse.  We can't wait to compare their growth.

Which do you think is best for growing plants - indoors or outdoors?
